Well as a massage therapist I can tell you that we are taught not to treat pregnant clients in mainstream massage (make sure you use a qualified therapist also trained in pregnancy massage) - you need to do additional training for this form of massage. So it is not always easy to find a place to provide pregnancy massage and some mums to be just don't know it's out there.
There are some hotels and spas that offer treatment as a one off pregnancy pamper package and will charge you an excessive amount. If you're lucky maybe work colleagues will have a whip round so you can go ...but it will be unlikely you can afford to have the treatment regularly during your pregnancy. Here at Delucia Holistics we expect our customers to visit as needed during pregnancy and we are reasonably priced.
Us ladies can feel guilty or feel it is indulgent & frivolous spending time and money on ourselves during pregnancy when we know we have to get a nursery ready and buy lots of equipment and clothes for our new baby - and you know you are going to be on maternity leave for some time , - and some of you feel you have to even justify that! Push the boat out ...It may be also worth considering hypno-birthing, pregnancy yoga, & aquanatal exercise in addition to your regular pregnancy massage. Please don't stint on your well-being you are going through a life changing process and pregnancy massage can help you and importantly your baby and your partner.
I know you're probably wondering how can me getting a massage make your partner feel better. Well your other half know's you're having difficulty sleeping, and that you have backache, cramp, swelling, and nausea. There is not a lot he can do to help unless he's a professional massage therapist too - but he's really looking forward to the baby and he wishes he can take some of the strain off you. The majority of pregnancy massages are purchased by people who are from other countries who have a different viewpoint on health and well-being and also by partners and relatives who just basically want to help you during your pregnancy and ensure you have a relatively easy birth.
As a holistic therapist and beautician I've observed that men have no qualms about booking treatments regularly to ensure their health and well-being. If men could experience pregnancy we'd see them for a weekly pregnancy massage if not daily! Us ladies really need to wise up and take care of ourselves, have massage during your pregnancy and whatever else helps maintains the health of you and your baby.
